Nuclear whistleblowers Rick Busnardo and Mike Mason describe environment at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station that discourages raising safety concerns

February 3, 2010

Nuclear whistleblowers Mr. Busnardo and Mr. Mason presented concerns to the San Clemente City Council about the restart of Unit 2 at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (“SONGS”).

On February 2, 2010, in an article entitled “Edison set to restart San Onofre reactor on February 18“, the Ocean City Register described the current controversy in the San Clemente area regarding a planned reactivation of Unit 2 of SONGS. While Southern California Edison and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission insist that the replaced reactor is safe, numerous community advocates disagree. The article also cites KMB clients and veteran nuclear workers Rick Busnardo and Mike Mason, who earlier blew the whistle on nuclear safety issues at SONGS. Mr. Busnardo and Mr. Mason contend that the environment at SONGS is still one that strongly discourages openly raising safety concerns.
