Avi Kumin, one of the founders of Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP, has developed an expertise in employment discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower claims, employment contracts, and Family and Medical Leave Act claims. Mr. Kumin has also specialized in litigating post-9/11 backlash discrimination and retaliation cases. Prior to joining Katz, Marshall & Banks, Mr. Kumin worked at the employment law firm of Bernabei & Katz.

Mr. Kumin lectures about disability discrimination, the Family and Medical Leave Act, retaliation and whistleblower claims, and other employment issues, including recently before the American Bar Association, the D.C. Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and the annual conferences of the Hemophilia Federation of America and the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.  Mr. Kumin is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association, the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the California Bar Association.

Mr. Kumin received a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, from Brandeis University in 1996, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. In 2000, he received a J.D. degree from Yale Law School. Mr. Kumin was Editor of the Yale Human Rights and Development Law Journal. Following law school graduation, Mr. Kumin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Tena Campbell, U.S. District Court for the District of Utah.
