Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP Announces Addition of Susan L. Burke as Of Counsel

Katz, Marshall & Banks is pleased to announce the addition of Susan L. Burke as Of Counsel to the firm.  Ms. Burke is an accomplished litigator who has prosecuted numerous civil actions involving human rights, pharmaceutical fraud, defense contractor fraud, employment and disability discrimination, and environmental torts.  Presently, Ms. Burke serves as lead counsel in a pending multi-district litigation on behalf of the soldiers harmed by defense contractor KBR’s negligent operation of burn pits in Iraq and Afghanistan. She is also spearheading a series of lawsuits nationwide designed to reform the manner in which the military prosecutes rape and sexual assault – a project which has become the basis for the Academy-Award nominated documentary “The Invisible War.”  Her work on behalf of victims of sexual assault in the military was the focus of a feature earlier this week in the Washington Post.

Throughout the course of a 25-year career, Ms. Burke has achieved numerous litigation victories,  including most recently obtaining multi-million dollar settlements for Abu Ghraib torture victims, and for other Iraqis who were injured or lost family members as a result of defense contractor Blackwater’s violence in Iraq.  Her recent courtroom victories include obtaining an injunction that prevented the U.S. government from allowing an American citizen to be turned over and tortured by a foreign nation as well as a False Claim Act case victory in a medical device case.  As Of Counsel to Katz, Marshall & Banks, Ms. Burke will focus her practice on False Claims Act litigation, defense contractor fraud, and whistleblower matters.
