Katz, Marshall & Banks, LLP partner Debra S. Katz was quoted in the National Law Journal article “FBI official’s retaliation case headed to trial.” The article details the case of Bassem Youssef, the highest-ranking Arab-American at the FBI, who claims he was denied career-advancement opportunities after the 9/11 attacks because of his national origin and ethnicity, including being denied work on a 9/11 investigatory panel despite his fluency in Arabic and strong background in counterterrorism.  Youssef is praised as a whistleblower for speaking out against the alleged misuse of telephone surveillance technology by the FBI despite the risk it posed to his career and reputation. Katz is quoted as saying “I think the facts are pretty extreme in this case. In the plaintiff’s bar there’s a feeling that these are exactly the people who you want to have legal protection.”
